Founded by Greg Schnurr in Austin, Texas in 1973, Schnurr, Inc. grew from apartment painting to one of the city’s largest commercial painting contractors. As Austin grew, so did the company, forging relationships with the city’s most reputable general contractors. In the early 1990s, Greg was the first painting contractor to seize on the opportunity to specialize in applications for technology companies in their semiconductor fabrication environments, and successfully completed contracts for almost all of the companies springing up in Austin, especially Dell, Inc. It is from this entrepreneurial spirit that Jason and Matthew Schnurr, his sons who grew up working for the company, continue the company’s vision through the next chapter of coatings, Matson Schnurr. Growing up in the silicon hills, as Austin is known, surrounded by such institutions as the SXSW conference and festival, both Matt and Jason bring a focus on embracing technology in practical ways to the industry and the Schnurr Painting, LLC brand, while balancing a path rooted in a reputation for integrity and no-nonsense “get it done” attitude created by their father.

Manager, Operations, Bus Dev & Finance

Lifelong career in the construction & contracting industry alongside his brother Matt, Jason has developed a proficiency in budgets & proformas, and systems for administration & operations, has an unusual obsession with networking and winning bids “outside of the box”, is known to take off and trail run on long trails in the backcountry, used to work at PseudoRock rock climbing gym and still knows many secret ATX bouldering spots. He is experienced with chemical-based coatings including safety, composition information, coating systems, application and clean-up. Also, studied Spanish from middle school through college but can’t speak as well as his brother. That includes studies in Spanish during his obtaining a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Chief Estimator

Jerome began work with the Schnurr Painting, LLC team in 2013. He has successfully bid and contracted over $12 million in paint projects in his time with Schnurr.  Jerome is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in construction management.  He moved to Vail Colorado in 2003 where he was a Project Manager/Estimator for B&B Excavating, an acquired company of Oldcastle Materials. In Colorado he oversaw multiple deep utility, excavating and paving projects, most notably the $25 million dollar Vail Streetscape project completed in 2010, and unfortunately worked too much to perfect his downhill turns. Thereafter, he transitioned into the Lead Estimator position for B&B. In 2012 Jerome and his wife Magda moved to Austin, TX and joined the Schnurr Painting, LLC team. When Jerome isn’t scrutinizing plans, painstakingly crunching dimensions and rates, and obsessing over his timeliness responding to RFIs, he can be found fronting his rock band screaming into microphones and wailing on guitars. Seriously. He rocks.

Field Liaison

Laura is the newest addition to the team, and has filled a critical role as the liaison coordinating between the office and the field. She hails from Bogota, Colombia, with an education degree in Engineering and Business. Upon relocating to Austin, she dove headfirst into the business of marketing and social media. With Matson Schnurr as her new home, she is tasked with marrying her education and experience in handling the pressures of the day-to-day in the field while providing backup to administration, and doing so with an eye towards General Contractor client satisfaction.

Manager, Field Operations, Safety Coordinator

Lifelong career in the construction & contracting industry alongside his brother Jason. Has worked from bottom up to oversee projects from Mexico to Texas including but not limited to hospitals, schools, water treatment plants, prisons and office centers. His experience includes technical concrete and steel coatings in intensive regulation environments. Somewhere in there he has grown an unusual obsession with safety (he’s the guy that keeps a current CPR certification and teaches his coworkers to be exemplary in their safety culture and personal health). Hobbies include Krav Maga with his sons, holds a level II handgun certification with the Elite Firearms & Self Defense, likes to get his hands dirty in the garden, and used to drive the famed Spryte snowcat used in the movie “The Shining” while working for Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood. Also, Matt speaks Spanish better than your Spanish teacher.

Director of Administration

Jennifer has worn every “hat” in the company with regards to administration and operations. She manages policies and procedures in the utmost professional manner, specializing in bookkeeping and numbers. Jen has been with the team for thirty years, and has seen and handled it “all” in the commercial construction industry. She can converse in detail LEED compliance, Background Checks, Wage Scale, Certified Payroll, Textura, eMars, Pro Core, OSHA logs as well as she can converse in detail about all things Austin.

Administration Assistant

Katie’s addition to the team was quick and yet, it feels like she has been a part of the team forever. And yes, she is a “Schnurr” herself. Katie studied Dance and Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin where she gained a passion for learning and fine-tuned her detail-oriented skills, as her specialties lie in thoroughly learning the industry from the ground up. She is a facilitator between the field and office as well as maintaining relationships with vendors and being a direct vehicle for operations, social media and marketing, and administration for the company.
